An engaging online event to celebrate Julie M. Green's memoir, Motherness: A Memoir of Generational Autism, Parenthood, and Radical Acceptance. Q&A with fellow author and editor of the book, Jen Sookfong Lee.
Julie M. Green was diagnosed with autism at 44, nearly a decade after her son’s diagnosis. In her new book Motherness: A Memoir of Generational Autism, Parenthood, and Radical Acceptance, Julie shares her story about raising an autistic child while coming to terms with her own neurodivergence. She opens up about the challenges of motherhood, myths surrounding autism and the dangers of chasing perfection.
In this episode, I talk with author and advocate Julie Green about her memoir Motherness, a powerful exploration of generational autism, parenthood, and radical acceptance. Julie shares her late-diagnosis journey, the complexities of raising an autistic child while navigating her own neurodivergence, and the healing power of writing and storytelling. We discuss the importance of representation, self-compassion, and community, as well as why radical acceptance is central to parenting and living authentically as a neurodivergent family.
